iomega NAS Firmware/OS Installation

Hallo liebe Community,

habe vor ein paar Monaten eine NAS der Marke iomega (ix-ng) als "Bastlerware" geschenkt bekommen.
Da ich bis dato noch keine Zeit hatte mich mit dem Dingen zu beschäftigen, habe ich das auch nicht weiter verfolgt.
In den vergangenen Tagen hab ich mich mal damit auseinander gesetzt und bin etwas planlos.

Das Betriebssystem ist laut Netz auf den Platten, da diese aber entfernt wurden fehlt dieses jetzt.
Nach weiterem suchen im Internet, hab ich dann diverse Artikel gefunden wie man "ganz einfach" mit Stick und entsprechendem Image das Gerät neu installieren/aufsetzen kann/soll.

Dies funktioniert aber so in der Art nicht, logischerweise muss das System ja auch die Anweisung bekommen das Image auf dem Stick zu entpacken bzw. zu booten.

Nun ja die Frage ist, wie stell ich das am besten an?
Wie ich gelesen habe kann man unter Linux Systemen, die neue HDD die in die NAS reinkommt wohl vorbereiten bzw. installieren.

Also, so wie ich das interpretiere, soll man wohl ein Linux System (welches genau weiß ich leider nicht) bereits auf die HDD installieren, um dann mit einem USB Stick das Firmware Image zu booten, sodass sich das Gerät neu installiert.


Hat irgendjemand Erfahrungen bzw. kennt sich in dem Gebiet genauer aus?
Wäre schön wenn ich in der Hinsicht ein paar Tipps bzw. Erklärungen bekäme, wie das ganze ablaufen soll/könnte.... wie auch immer

Alles viel komplizierter dargestellt als es dann tatsächlich ist.

Prepare disk
Ensure both disks are initialized with GPT partition table. Use the utility gdisk or fdisk to do this.

Now extract the files zImage and initrd from emctools/xxx_images/xxx.tgz. Connect the disk to your (Linux) PC, and write the files to the raw disk:
dd if=/path/to/zImage of=/dev/sdb seek=2048
dd if=/path/to/initrd of=/dev/sdb seek=8192
Connect the disk in to NAS
1.Download the zip file.
2.format the pen drive using FAT32 filesystem.
3.copy emctools folder to pendrive
4.Make sure the NAS is shutdown, connect the pen drive to the NAS usb port and press the reset button available on the back side while powering on the NAS device and hold the reset button for 40-60 secs and then release it so that the imaging process could start.
5.You can see the progress in the LCD if there of the NAS and upon completion of the installation the NAS would automatically shut down.
6.Please remove the pen drive and turn on the NAS unit and check if it is booting completely.

Danke dass du das nachgereicht hast. Was mir gerade auffällt, dort steht einmal "sdc" für die DO GPT und "Prepare disk" (welch komplett identisch sind) und "sdb" im Download und Installationspart mit "dd". Auch geht der Link zu den "emctools" nicht.

Wie gesagt ist auch nur en Fund ausem Netz.
Muss man halt individuell noch anpassen.

Und die Firmware findet man wenn man danach googlet auf anderen Seiten
