Dawson Tamatea, 55, was described as a ‘top bloke’ by colleagues and that was certainly proved when it came to his funeral.
The entire school performed a powerful haka at Palmerston North Boys’ High School as his hearse pulled into the grounds.
Paying tribute to him, rector of the school David Bovey told the Manawatu Standard: ‘We talk about good teachers being able to create and develop relationships with the boys and he just had wonderful relationship with the staff and the boys.
‘His presence in the staff room, in particular, will be missed. He was just such a warm, positive, enthusiastic guy.’
